Recommended Summer Reading List (Grades 6-12)
Friday, June 7, 2024Recommended Summer Reading - 2024
It is expected that all students in Middle School & Upper School at Harvest Preparatory School will stay active during the summer months by immersing themselves in reading to prepare for the next school year. In order to find success and be prepared for the curriculum and course of study that our English Language Arts Department will be providing beginning in the fall. It highly advised that students read as many of the recommended books for their assigned grade level for 2024-2025.
You will also notice that we are working diligently and methodically at integrating reading material that aligns with our diversity curriculum goals. Our goals are to help students articulate their own cultural perspectives and explain how their experiences have shaped their cultural perspectives and self-awareness. We also want to help students learn how to demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of elements important to another culture in relation to its history, values, and beliefs. We also have goals of helping students learn how to initiate interactions with culturally different people and develop an appreciation for the value of diversity in our society.
Students who submit a completed book report based on up to two books in their grade level will receive extra credit points for the first quarter of the 2024-2025 in their English Language Arts class. Students are responsible to purchase books from a retailer or borrow them from a local public library. Book reports should be a minimum of 500 words and should include an introduction, plot summary, analysis, and conclusion. Submitted reports should be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, and include fully developed paragraphs. Completed book reports should be emailed to info@harvestprep.org and they will be forwarded to your English Language Arts teacher once student course schedules are completed in July.
